Supporting the Salt Spring Community

The first annual Salt Spring Lunker Derby, presented by Moby’s Pub and Cassette Cafe and Dive Bar, kicks off on Friday September 13th, 2024. The Lunker Derby is building on the history and success of past Moby’s Fishing Derby’s. We will donate funds to charities and societies or projects that benefit the future of the community and support a healthy and vibrant upbringing for Salt Spring kids. The 2024 Derby hopes to raise over $20,000.

This years derby will donate proceeds to the Island Stream and Salmon Enhancement Society and Salt Spring Island Minor Baseball Association.

This Island Stream and Salmon Enhancement Society is volunteer run and has been in operation on the Gulf Islands since 1987. Their work includes stream and creek rehabilitation work and operation of the Cusheon Creek Hatchery to ensure healthy fish populations for the future.

The Lunker Derby will also be donating funds to the Salt Spring Island Minor Baseball Association. The funds will be used to purchase amenities that support the “Hydro Ball Fields” improvements. These amenities should benefit SSI Baseball, SSI Girls Fastpitch, soccer leagues and adult slo-pitch.
